I ❤️ Mölkky
Mölkky is a Finnish lawn game that I’ve been playing since I was a little girl, so you can imagine how excited I was when they asked me to be their official ambassador! It’s the #1 outdoor game in Europe but surprisingly very few people in the US have heard of it! I’ve introduced Mölkky to all my American friends over the years, and every time we play at the park or the beach, curious people will stop and try to figure out what we’re playing! Every time! I’ve explained the rules so many times that I decided to make this video on how to play 😁
The rules are simple:
Set up the pins in the formation pictured below
Mark your throwing line 3 to 4 meters away
You always throw underhand and you get one throw per turn
You score by knocking over the pins. If one pin falls, you score the number on that pin. If more than one pin falls, you score the number of pins that fell. If a pin is leaning on another pin, it doesn’t count as fallen!
After each turn, stand the pins back up right where they fell
If you miss completely 3 turns in a row, you’re out of the game!
The first player to score exactly 50 points wins the game! If you go over 50, your score gets lowered to 25 points and the game continues!
Mölkky is the perfect game to play outside on a beautiful day. All you need is a little bit of space and a friend and you can start playing! In my opinion, it’s most fun when you have 2 to 6 players, but if you have more than that, just pair up and play with teams! It’s super easy to learn and fun for both kids and adults.
Another thing I love about Mölkky is that it’s all natural, made of Finnish wood from sustainable forests. Now more than ever, it’s important to support companies that really value sustainability. They also have a great scorekeeping app that you can download on your Android or iOS device.
If you’re in the US, you can buy it on Amazon!
